How to Merge, Split, and Organize PDF Files for Free (No Software)

July 12, 2026 · somefreetools.com

You don't need a paid PDF editor for the everyday stuff. Merging contracts, pulling three pages out of a report, rotating a scan that came in sideways — all of it can be done free, in your browser, without the file ever leaving your computer.

Merging multiple PDFs into one

The most common task: you have a cover letter, a CV, and a certificate, and the upload form wants one file.

Open the Merge PDF tool, drop in your files, drag them into the right order, and download the combined document. Because the merge happens locally in your browser, it's safe even for confidential paperwork — nothing is uploaded to any server.

Splitting and extracting pages

Two different jobs, two tools:

  • You want specific pages as a new file — use Extract PDF Pages. Type a range like 2-5, 8 and get just those pages.
  • You want to break a document into parts — use Split PDF to cut a long PDF into separate files.

A related trick: if a PDF contains pages you simply don't want (blank scanner pages, an outdated appendix), Delete PDF Pages removes them without touching the rest.

Fixing page order and orientation

Scans and exports often come out wrong. Three quick fixes:

  1. Pages in the wrong orderOrganize PDF Pages shows every page as a thumbnail you can drag around.
  2. Whole document reversed (last page first) — Reverse PDF Pages flips the order in one click.
  3. Sideways or upside-down pagesRotate PDF Pages rotates individual pages or the whole file in 90° steps.

Professional touches

Sending the result to a client or an institution? A few finishing tools make the document look deliberate:

Keep the file size sensible

Merged PDFs — especially ones built from scans — can balloon in size. If the upload form has a limit, run the finished document through Compress PDF as the final step. Scanned documents often shrink by half or more.

The full workflow in one list

  1. Combine the source files → Merge PDF
  2. Remove or extract pages → Delete / Extract
  3. Fix order and rotation → Organize / Rotate
  4. Add page numbers or a watermark → Page Numbers / Watermark
  5. Compress before sending → Compress PDF

Every tool in the list is free, works on any device with a browser, and processes your documents locally — no uploads, no signups, no watermarks on the output.
